Who do we help?

Below is a list of the kind of groups and organisations that benefit from FareShare. If you feel your project, organisation or company could benefit and develop its services by receiving food from FareShare please get in touch and we can discuss the possibilities.

Socially Excluded People: FareShare provides access to high quality fresh food, helping vulnerable people to maintain a nutritious diet. A better diet is often a vital first step in regaining confidence and self-esteem and encourages clients to access other support services.

Day Centres and Homelessness Hostels: Although these projects may regularly be offered donations of food, all too often they are unable to use them effectively as they are either too large for immediate use or consist of just one item. FareShare centralises its collections, ensuring projects are provided with food based on their needs so they have the right variety and amount of food at the right time. A reduced food bill also enables projects to channel limited funds into other schemes such as resettlement advice and training. Click here to see if we can help your project

Training, support and advice: FareShare is a registered training centre for the Institute of Environmental Health; providing all FareShare staff and volunteers across the FareShare network with training in food safety standards at our London HQ. FareShare also employs a nutritionist to provide advice and support, and where needed training for individuals within the agencies that receive food from us.

The Local Community: FareShare provides opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the local community in a practical way. A large number of those who volunteer for FareShare are unemployed and a many have previously been homeless themselves. FareShare provides over 250 volunteers with valuable training opportunities in food hygiene, driving and delivery across the UK. FareShare London has a regular team of 93 volunteers, many of whom have been working for FareShare for several years. Learn more about volunteering

The Environment: FareShare plays a vital role in the waste strategies of many major UK food companies, helping them to meet the government’s targets to reduce waste. Over 2,000 tonnes of fresh food would otherwise go to landfill each year. The Government’s Waste Strategy involves making; greater efforts to reduce waste, substantially increase recycling and composting and where it cannot be recycled to generate electricity through incineration.
