Dinner in Derry

Multi-award winning chef Ian Orr will be serving up lunch to FareShare Belfast’s service users in an event celebrating our work in Derry City.

Taking place on 25 September from 12 to 4pm, the chef from Brown’s Restaurant will be feeding around 100 people from nine of Derry’s FareShare supported projects.  All the food will of course be sourced via FareShare.

Since September 2012, with the aid of three temperature-controlled delivery vans, FareShare Belfast has been successfully shipping food to projects in Derry City. These include Claredon Shelter, House in the Wells, Foyle Valley House, the Northlands Centre, Methodist City Mission, Foyle Haven, Praxis’ Foyle Young People’s Project, the Foyle Cookie Company and Damian House.

Last year alone FareShare Belfast diverted the equivalent of 200,000 meals from landfill, feeding low income families, lone parents, senior citizens, disabled people, homeless people and destitute foreign nationals.

Irish Chef of the Year 2013 Ian Orr will prepare the lunches while local classical guitarist Sean Woods will provide the entertainment. There will also be a fifteen minute presentation on affordable cooking from community dietitian Claire Holmes before each of the two sittings.
