Doors Open in Scotland

People in Edinburgh will have a chance to go behind the scenes and see how surplus food is being used to fight poverty in their city, as FareShare Central and South East Scotland welcomes the public to their depot this weekend.

As part of Doors Open weekend, staff and volunteers will be telling visitors about their work redistributing good food that would otherwise go to waste to homeless hostels, refuges and other charities working with disadvantaged people.

This is the second year that FareShare Central and South East Scotland has taken part in the weekend. Phoebe Boag, Senior Shift Coordinator, says of last year “Many people visiting had no idea homelessness was such a problem in Edinburgh, nor had they any idea of the volume of surplus food. People were delightfully surprised to discover what we do.”

FareShare Central and South East Scotland is run by Cyrenians Good Food Programme, a social enterprise with a mission to bring good food to people experiencing disadvantage.
