Every child deserves a Christmas meal. The same way every child deserves a meal at school. Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge and The Food Foundation are highlighting the harrowing situation for over 800,000 school children who are slipping through the eligibility net and going hungry at school.
“Christmas is a stark reminder to look after each other, and it shouldn’t be just over the festive period, it should be all the time. There are kids going to school with empty lunch boxes, hiding from the dining room because they are so embarrassed. It’s a national crisis and truly a heart-breaking one.”

A widower and father of a young family, Daniel lives in temporary accommodation and has been receiving FareShare food since the coronavirus outbreak began. “The food has got more expensive and we have not had the money to eat.” It has been a challenging couple of years for Daniel, he lost his partner during the first national lockdown and that meant the loss of the main income for the family.
Daniel has been going twice a week to his local Community Centre to pick up a food parcel supplied by FareShare. “Since walking through the door, coming here has been the best time of the week.”

Moira, a single mum, lost her part-time job at the beginning of the pandemic. She has been receiving FareShare food at a most critical time. This has not only enabled her to feed her family, it has given her some breathing space to get back on her feet, taking away stress and sleepless nights. “Knowing I can get food on the table has helped me financially as well, now I have money to pay the bills and the rent.”

Daniel and Moira are among the many hundreds of struggling families whose lives have been changed for the better thanks to donations from FareShare friends like you. Sadly, the request for assistance has grown significantly with more vulnerable people at risk of going hungry. Please will you send a gift and help us reach more people in need?
