Thank you, we’ve just done bigger and better! With your help, we collected enough food for 3.5 million meals through the UK’s biggest food collection event.
On 5th and 6th July generous customers helped feed people in need by donating food in Tesco stores to support FareShare and the Trussell Trust. The food will be redistributed to frontline charities across the UK, such as breakfast clubs, women’s refuges and luncheon clubs for the elderly. Tesco ‘topped-up’ your food donations by 30%, making your donation go even further.
The food collected - cupboard essentials - complements the predominantly fresh produce we receive from the food industry. Tesco, for example, is redistributing surplus food to FareShare from its online grocery distribution centres and has in the last year provided the equivalent of 300,000 meals.
This is the second food collection event we run with Tesco and Trussell Trust. In December 2012, generous Tesco customers donated enough food for an incredible 2 million meals to help feed people in need. This year, we did even better!
